E+H FMP51 Procurement and Replacement Guide

E+H FMP51 Procurement and Replacement Guide
Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP51 is a guided-wave radar instrument for continuous level and interface measurement in liquids, pastes and slurries, including demanding process conditions. When purchasing FMP51-BAACCABCB3ARJ+AA, 7000MM, the full order code and 7000 mm probe length must be checked together with probe design, process connection, materials, pressure and temperature limits, communication, approvals and documentation.
Order code: FMP51-BAACCABCB3ARJ+AA, 7000MM
Measurement: continuous level and interface measurement by guided-wave radar
Buying priority: exact 7 m probe configuration, lead-time planning and engineered replacement of legacy instruments
Where FMP51 fits best
Endress+Hauser positions the FMP51 for reliable measurement under demanding conditions such as higher temperature and pressure, moving surfaces, foam and vessels with internal baffles. It supports level measurement and, in suitable applications, simultaneous interface and overall level measurement.
The manufacturer lists rod, rope and coaxial probes. Typical accuracy is ±2 mm for rod, coaxial and rope probes up to 15 m, while longer rope versions have different accuracy limits. Depending on configuration, measuring distances reach 10 m with rod, up to 45 m with rope and 6 m with coaxial probe; the listed process range is −50 to +200 °C and vacuum to 40 bar.
Procurement decision checklist
- Define the duty: overall level or interface measurement, medium pair, dielectric constants, vessel geometry, range and accuracy target.
- Confirm the 7000 mm probe: verify rod or rope construction, active length, bottom clearance, anchoring requirements and transport constraints.
- Check process conditions: temperature, pressure, foam, turbulence, coating, vapor and compatibility of every wetted material.
- Confirm the mechanical fit: thread or flange standard, size, rating, nozzle geometry and clearance from internals.
- Freeze integration and approvals: power, HART/PROFIBUS PA/FOUNDATION Fieldbus, hazardous-area approval, WHG/SIL, marine and material documentation.
- Approve the full code: release FMP51-BAACCABCB3ARJ+AA, 7000MM only after all coded options and probe length match the project datasheet.
Lead-time management
Probe design and length, process connection, special materials, housing, protocol, approvals, calibration and documentation can change production, inspection and transport schedules. Request availability against the full order code, freeze the mechanical details early and confirm packaging and freight arrangements before setting the required-on-site date.
For shutdown-critical projects, agree technical alternatives and site-preparation work in advance. Determine whether the probe can be supplied in sections, shortened or replaced on site, and verify any effect on warranty, accuracy or approvals. Include document review, customs, oversized-freight risk and commissioning buffers.
Replacing an old or discontinued level instrument
Begin with the installed nameplate, complete order code and serial number. Record probe type and exact length, interface duty, process connection, mounting geometry, medium, temperature and pressure, materials, approvals, wiring, protocol, parameters and DCS scaling before selecting a successor.
- Confirm lifecycle status and obtain the original configuration, probe drawing and parameter backup.
- Compare probe, process, mechanical, electrical, communication and approval requirements item by item.
- Identify flange adapters, gaskets, probe anchoring, cable entries and transport or lifting needs before shutdown.
- Plan parameter migration, empty/full calibration, interface checks, loop tests, alarms and rollback.
- Retain the old instrument until the replacement passes functional and process verification.
Important: FMP50, FMP51 and other Levelflex variants are not automatically interchangeable. Similar names do not guarantee the same probe, process limits, materials, approvals or communication. Validate the exact replacement for the application.
