E+H CM442 Buying Guide: Channels, Lead Time, Replacement

CM442 Procurement: Specify the Channels and Interfaces You Actually Need
For a water-treatment skid, utility installation or analyzer upgrade, Endress+Hauser Liquiline CM442 offers a modular approach to liquid-analysis measurement. A useful purchase specification starts with the sensor list and control-system interfaces, not just the transmitter series. Confirm the complete order code before accepting a quotation or substitute.
Series: Liquiline CM442
Priority decisions: one or two measurement channels, compatible sensors, installed I/O, communication and delivery scope.
A family capability is not proof that a particular quoted unit includes it.
Keep CM442 Capabilities Separate from the Wider Family
The manufacturer identifies CM442 as a one-/two-channel field transmitter with up to two Memosens sensors. Supported measurement choices include pH/ORP, conductivity, oxygen and other parameters, subject to sensor and configuration compatibility. The published enclosure rating is IP66/IP67; correct installation and cable-entry sealing remain essential.
Do not read the maximum eight-channel statement in shared CM442/CM444/CM448 documentation as a CM442 specification. Likewise, available current outputs, relays and digital communication depend on the selected hardware and configuration. Verify the actual offered unit and any proposed expansion against its technical documents.
Build a Channel-to-Control-System Checklist
- Channel assignment: identify each measuring parameter, sensor model, cable and process duty. Confirm that both the sensor type and firmware combination are supported.
- Signal assignment: list every value needed by the control system, including temperature or diagnostic values where required. Then confirm enough configured outputs or the correct digital interface are included.
- Power and installation: verify supply version, mounting, ambient conditions, cable entries and space for wiring and service.
- Control functions: specify required alarms, relays, cleaning or control functions explicitly. Do not assume an optional function is installed because it appears in a brochure.
- Delivery scope: separate transmitter, sensors, cables, assemblies, mounting accessories and commissioning support in the offer.
Manage Lead Time for the Whole Measuring Point
Freeze the technical baseline. Provide the full code where available, quantity, sensor/channel list, power, I/O and protocol requirements. Ask suppliers to identify every deviation in an alternative offer before commercial approval.
Request a specific commitment. Distinguish reserved stock from factory production and stock subject to prior sale. Obtain the exact supplied configuration and written dispatch date, with any outstanding document or technical conditions. Stock, price and lead time require current confirmation; this article does not promise fixed availability.
Track dependencies. A transmitter without the matching sensor, cable or assembly is not a complete measuring point. Coordinate transport, receiving checks, installation, integration and commissioning with the site schedule. Reconfirm delivery if channels, modules or documentation requirements change.
Replacing an Old or Discontinued Transmitter
First confirm lifecycle status and available support with the manufacturer. Age alone does not establish discontinuation. Collect the installed nameplate, full code, sensor identification, wiring diagrams, output assignments and configuration backup.
- Compare sensor technology: an analog sensor installation may need sensor and cable changes before moving to a digital Memosens platform.
- Compare installation and power: CM442 is not automatically interchangeable with a two-wire CM42 or a panel-mounted CM14. Review mounting, supply and loop architecture.
- Compare integration: confirm parameter mapping, scaling, protocol support and required engineering files. A physically connected instrument is not necessarily integrated correctly.
- Plan acceptance: follow parameter-specific calibration guidance, then verify both channels, output assignments, diagnostic behavior and required alarm/control functions before release to operation.
Include sensors, cables, modules, wiring changes and commissioning in the cost and schedule comparison. A similar product name is not a compatibility statement.
