Where an 80 km Industrial SFP Makes Sense

The module is designed for long fiber routes between substations, utility sites, transportation nodes, process facilities, remote pumping stations and geographically separated plant buildings. It preserves a Gigabit backbone where intermediate active equipment would add power, cabinet and maintenance requirements.

Critical Optical-Budget Check

This is not a universal replacement for shorter-range optics. The published optical budget begins at 5 dB and the example link range begins at 23 km. A short route may deliver excessive optical power to the receiver unless the link is engineered with suitable attenuation.
